Tip: Local onboarding is a process that should last at least 6 months to support a successful provisional performance review.

This is where supervisors shape the new employee’s experience, connection to Lehigh, and sense of belonging.

Stages 1, 2, and 3 must be completed prior to beginning Stage 4.

Steps to Complete

Step 1: First Day Essentials
  • Host a departmental welcome, orientation, or morning meet & greet

  • Review Departmental goals and structure

  • Review the new team member’s position description and your expectations

  • Develop a cadence for your one on meetings and your more formal 30,60,90 day check ins

  • Confirm all paperwork and background checks are complete

  • Confirm access to key systems and spaces

  • Review departmental culture hours, communication norms, etiquette, dress code, and more.

Step 2: Training & Integration

Provide a week 1 itinerary: meetings, campus tours, key player contacts, role shadowing, key system setups, including how-to’s and contact information

Confirm working essentials:

  • Lehigh Pass (ID Card)
  • Gmail, Google Calendar, & Google Drive access
  • Zoom account and Zoom access
  • Phone set up if necessary
  • MS Office access
  • Review mandatory training such as FERPA, Title IX, Harassment, etc.
Step 3: Ongoing Development & Support

Promote a culture of continuous mentorship, learning, and feedback through participation in:

  • HR and LTS Workshops

  • System Training

  • HawkWatch

  • Be Well Program

  • LinkedIn Learning

  • Campus Involvement

Tip: Set weekly one-on-one meetings for feedback and coaching during the first 6 months.
