What Is Organizational Development?
Organizational Development is the planned process of developing a group, team, department, or organization to be more effective. Organizational development projects require careful assessment, planning, and implementation and usually take place over a period of three to six months or up to a year or more. They frequently involve activities at multiple levels. Initial steps include environmental assessments and data collection through interviews, focus groups, or surveys.
Does Your Team Need Organizational Development Assistance?
When considering whether your team or department might benefit from organizational development, here are some questions to ask:
- Is your organization undergoing transition from one stage of growth to another?
- Does it need to refocus and clarify its direction?
- Is it undergoing an "identity crisis?"
- Are you clinging to obsolete products, services, or practices?
- Are you experiencing low staff morale and/or high turnover?
- Is your organization bogged down with inflexible rules, regulations, and directives?
- Does it need to realign staffing with organizational priorities?
- Is there a sense of unrealized potential?
How HR Can Help
Lehigh HR has worked with managers, supervisors, team leaders, committees, and other groups to develop strategies to achieve desired outcomes. At times, external consultants are included in the process. We work closely with managers to analyze information and develop alternative recommendations before implementing any activities. Plans and interventions can be directed toward multiple levels of your organization and are always custom designed to suit your unique needs. Once a plan is implemented, we work with you to track progress and assist with any corrections or changes. We’ll help you manage the change that accompanies the plan. And, once completed, we’ll help you evaluate whether your stated goals are reached.
Getting Started
Make an appointment to discuss your team’s individual situation. We can conduct an assessment of your needs. We’ll ask a series of questions to help identify the core issues and discuss alternative solutions. Then we’ll work with you to determine how we can help.
