Eligible faculty and staff members may purchase dependent life insurance to cover their spouses or domestic partners and their children. Coverage is available in the following increments at the following premium costs:

The premium cost for dependent life insurance is paid by the employee through salary deduction on an after-tax basis. Under current law, premiums for dependent life insurance cannot be paid with tax-free dollars. 

For new employees, there is no restriction on the amount of dependent life insurance selected. Thereafter however, employees are required to submit Evidence of Insurability if they choose to enroll or increase the coverage level for a spouse or domestic partner during an open enrollment period.

Coverage Limitation

  • Dependent life insurance can cover a child from 15 days of age up to the end of the month in which he or she becomes age 26.
