New for 2025: Voluntary Benefits by Voya

You are here

Starting January 1, 2025, Voya will replace Aflac as the university’s new voluntary benefits vendor, offering more robust coverage and reduced premiums. Voya will continue providing critical illness and accident coverage while introducing new hospital indemnity benefits and an additional critical illness coverage level for dependent children. Existing Aflac policies will end on December 31, 2024, and will automatically transfer to Voya at the same coverage level.

The critical illness benefit will continue offering employees coverage options of $10,000 or $20,000, with spouses eligible for 50% of the employee’s benefit. New this year, dependent children can also receive 50% of the employee’s coverage. The plan now features lower premiums, coverage for more conditions, and a $50 wellness benefit available for each covered individual.

The accident benefit will continue offering low and high coverage options, available for employees, spouses/partners, and dependent children. This year’s plan includes lower premiums and increased benefit amounts for accidents and injuries.

New for 2025, the hospital indemnity plan offers low and high benefit options for employees, spouses/partners, and dependent children. This plan provides a fixed daily benefit for hospital, critical care, or rehab stays, along with a $50 wellness benefit for each covered individual. There is also an additional newborn benefit.

Accident Example: Michael covers himself and his two school-aged children on High Accident coverage for $12.26 per month. One of his children injures themselves playing soccer and are diagnosed with a fractured ankle. The fracture will not require surgical intervention, but will need physical therapy after initial healing. Payment amounts under Voya Accident plan: ER visit: $275, Ankle fracture: $1,800, Medical equipment: $200, X-ray: $75, Follow-up doctor visit: $100, Physical therapy: $45 up to 6 visits TO
