Lehigh University encourages its entire community to commit to a healthy and active lifestyle. The university’s Employee Wellness Program provides programs, resources, and activities that promote a healthy campus.
A variety of wellness programs are available to Lehigh employees through various departments and areas across campus. Additional programs are offered each semester. Check the Workplace Learning Calendar for specific dates and times.

Capital Blue Cross Live Healthy
Lehigh's medical benefits provider introduced this new health and wellness website in 2015. The site is all about helping employees live healthy. Simply log into your secure member page and select the Wellness tab to get started. You'll find a profile tool that provides personalized health recommendations and ways to stay on track. You can sign up for online coaching programs for help with specific health conditions or goals. You can also catch up on the latest health news and get answers to frequently asked questions.
Located in the Taylor Gymnasium, Welch is a 10,000 square-foot, 3 tiered, multidimensional facility that provides the campus community with fitness equipment, expertise, classes and more to improve health and physical fitness. The Empower Program
An eight-week program presented occasionally by Better Health Works (a division of Capital Blue Cross). There is no cost. Bring your lunch; light refreshments are served. Stay tuned for upcoming information about the next class that will be forming this academic year. Empower will help you:
- Receive beginning, midpoint, and final body composition analyses to track your progress
- Set realistic and attainable personal goals
- Learn the basics of fitness, nutrition, and portion sizes
- Participate in support group interaction.

Yoga by YogaMos
Designed to bring balance, strength, flexibility, and greater vitality into the lives of participants. Yoga improves strength, coordination, and focus. It can reduce blood pressure, anxiety, and stress. Each class consists of techniques to focus the mind, breathing exercises, warm-up stretches, yoga postures, a relaxation exercise, and meditation. This program not only teaches techniques to reduce stress in our lives and to minimize the impact that stress has upon our body, mind, and spirit; it also guides each participant into the experience of inner peace and balance. Classes are offered during the noon to 1:00 pm lunch period on selected days. Each session runs for 8 weeks and costs $50. The spring sessions are scheduled to start in late January 2014 (choose Tuesdays, Noon to 1:00 p.m. or Wednesdays, Noon to 1:00 p.m.). Health Scan PLUS
A personal, preventive health screening that may determine if you have current or potential health problems. Tests include checks for
- Heart disease
- Liver and kidney disease
- Complete Blood Count (CBC)
- HDL (good) and LDL (bad) cholesterol level
Health Scan PLUS includes additional biometric assessments as part of the BE WELL wellness program.
Test results are strictly confidential. Only you receive your results. The program is conducted by LabCorp and is offered once a year on campus in the fall. Lehigh employees are eligible for one free screening per year as part of their benefits program. Retirees as well as employee spouses/partners can also participate in the screening at full cost (currently $55). Special registration is announced through the Spotlight. The next Health Scan PLUS event will take place in late September 2015.
Wellness Walking Groups
If you prefer your fitness outdoors with friends, join our Wellness Walking Groups during the lunch hour. It's a great way to build some exercise into your work week while meeting and making new friends on campus. Participantss meet at the flagpole Monday through Wednesday and start walking at 12:10 p.m. Distances vary depending on the day, and generally range between one and three miles. Lehigh's campus is always beautiful, especially in fall and spring, so join your colleagues and enjoy the scenery. Lehigh provides convenient access to the renowned Weight Watchers program by hosting weekly meetings right on campus. The cost of the program is $80 for each 8-week session. You can pay by cash, check (payable to Weight Watchers), Visa, Mastercard or payroll deduction for salaried faculty and staff. Weight Watchers is simple, satisfying and smart. The PointsPlus program is based on the latest nutritional science, and factors in the way your body actually processes food. Combined with the proven advantages of the Weight Watchers approach, the program helps you make healthy choices. A minimum of 15 participants is required for each session.
